Founding a Small Publishing Venture

An imprint built on a simple constraint: only publish what would not otherwise exist in print. Three titles in two years, funded through pre-orders and a single small grant.

What the work involved

Everything from author contracts and print quotes to distribution conversations and the unglamorous business of shipping boxes. The interesting part was learning how thin the margins are and how much of the model depends on direct relationships rather than trade distribution.
